A Clinical Update on the Management of
Temporomandibular Disorders and Orofacial Pain

This dual presentation will provide a review and update of the management of temporomandibular disorders, both myalgic and arthralgic, as well as other types of orofacial pain.  The review will highlight diagnostic, treatment and management considerations and will lively examine some of the controversies that exist today.  The role of occlusion in temporomandibular disorders will be fully addressed. Insights gained from years of experience of each speaker will be provided to assist the clinician in matching the appropriate treatment to the appropriate patients.  Other essentials for success will be discussed.

The following topics will be considered and debated:
What the literature reveals regarding the role of occlusion and TMD;
In what ways occlusal factors may affect muscle pain disorders different from intracapsular disorders;
In what respects orthopedic instability may relate to TMD;
The reasons an acute change in the occlusal condition may be associated with TMD;
The efficacy of various treatment procedures;
Basic orofacial pain differential diagnosis.
