Combined Periodontal and Endodontic Treatment Planning

SYNOPSIS:

For many years periodontists and endodontists have partnered to provide a foundation for the restoration of a damaged dentition.  For instance, injured or avulsed teeth can lead to a formidable esthetic dilemma.  Combined periodontal and endodontic treatment planning after trauma can enhance and preserve the alveolar foundation for a better restorative outcome.

In addition, the ability to differentiate extensive bone loss from a periodontal or endodontic source can retain serviceable teeth or prevent an implant site from becoming compromised.

This presentation will discuss how the interaction of the two disciplines can provide practical steps to prevent and/or repair a damaged dentition.

The speakers, who have worked together for 36 years, will elucidate the following topics with long-term documentation:

TOPICS:

1. Treatment strategies for the avulsed tooth in children and adults;

2. Diagnosis and treatment for the perio/endo lesion;

3. What perio/endo misconceptions still remain;

4. Perio/endo interaction on the decision to extract a tooth.
