MEETING DECORUM

Despite the current trend to dress in overly casual, dressed-down attire at some organization meetings, the Newport Harbor Academy of Dentistry continues to maintain a recommended coat-and-tie dress code.

The Academy’s philosophy is that this prescribed dress etiquette reflects the professionalism of the audience and conveys to the speaker a nonverbal message of appreciation and respectful consideration for the speaker’s ideas and opinions. Although there may be differences of opinion between the speaker and individual members, it is mandatory that these interchanges be made in a polite manner only.

This de rigueur standard of conduct is also expressed in  the member’s demeanor and punctuality: virtues that  contribute to the quality of the educational experience and prepare the dentist to become, once again, a student. As excellent as a teacher’s skills may be, without a willing and participating student there can be no education.

The suggested professional dress code and expectation for all members to maintain appropriate decorum suitable to the ambience of a fine hotel venue contribute to the enhancement of the unique and elegant educational experience this Academy continues to offer.
