Facial And Dental Planning For The Interdisciplinary Team
When maxillofacial surgeons, orthodontists, and restorative dentists correct occlusal discrepancies, a variety of facial results occur—some more successful than others. While facial improvement is often simultaneous with occlusal correction, facial decline may also be the unfortunate outcome. Specific facial planning and treatment guidelines can assure predictable and positive facial changes associated with occlusal correction.
An accurate and efficient approach to patient care using diagnostics, treatment, and case management will be presented. Challenging borderline cases will be discussed so that the dentist may better determine what is or isn't a surgical case, and illustrated case histories will demonstrate the clinical success of various treatment plans. A new and unique approach to facial planning will also be offered.
The various challenges that may occur requiring communication among the orthodontist, the maxillo-facial surgeon, and the restorative dentist will be discussed in detail. Information will be provided concerning presurgical orthodontic setup and post-surgical finishing, including a review of each tooth in the dentition.
