Carl Rieder/Newport Harbor Academy of Dentistry

By offering deserving dental students monetary grants for quality scientific presentations to the membership, the Academy seeks to instill clinical and leadership skills in a new generation of dentists who demonstrate the following qualities:

  • Professionalism, leadership, strong ethics and good communication skills;
  • Excellence in the art of dentistry and the ability to convey that superior quality to others;
  • A noteworthy academic and volunteer work record;
  • Substantial financial need and evidence that the student has made a concerted effort to assist himself or herself.

Three students selected by the scholarship committee each deliver a 10-minute presentation on which the membership votes to determine the winner.  Currently, the winner receives $10,000 and the two finalists $2,500 each.  In addition, the winner is awarded a one-year membership in the Academy, a singular reward that offers an extraordinary educational and mentoring opportunity.  We salute our generous donors for enriching these students' lives while, at the same time, supporting dental education.
