JOANNE PEARCE MARTIN
A Musical Journey Featuring Multiple Keyboard Instruments
Joanne Pearce Martin’s program will consist of an eclectic mix and personal reflection of her own musical journeys. Her newest, and certainly freshest, musical adventure is learning to play the Theremin, a lovely expressive precursor to the synthesizer—she is the proud owner of a Moog “Etherwave Pro”—and she performed on it (standing in bare feet) for the first time in March 2010 at Zipper Hall in her Piano Spheres recital.
Currently enjoying her ninth season as the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s Principal Keyboardist, Joanne Martin performs with the orchestra on multiple keyboard instruments including the celesta, various synthesizers, and occasionally a Mac computer, in addition to the ubiquitous piano. With the L.A. Phil, she has made numerous solo appearances on piano, harpsichord, and the Walt Disney Concert Hall organ, appearing with such conductors as Esa-Pekka Salonen, John Adams, and Miguel Harth-Bedoya.
A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, Ms. Pearce Martin has been guest soloist with many other orchestras in the U.S. and abroad including the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, San Diego Chamber Orchestra, Florida West Coast Symphony, and England’s Huddersfield Philharmonic.
